I went and saw The Help with Heather and Jenny a few weeks ago and decided that I wanted to read the book to see how close they actually suck to it, Jenny had mentioned some differences but I wanted to see/read for myself.
Things I liked that they changed in the movie:
  • Ms Celia having Minny and the kids come live with her and Johnny at the end of the movie, I thought it was sweet and showed how different she was to the other ladies
  • Them going into Leroy abusing Minny, especially the part at the end of the book when he was fired from work and locked her in the bathroom and threatened to burn the house down with her in it
  • Not having Stewart breaking up/proposing to Skeeter (yes I "liked" it in the book, but that actor is too hot for me to hate in the movie =p)
  • Skeeter's mom not looking as sick as she actually was in the book, because lets face it I love Allison Janney and would hated to have seen her so sick from the cancer.
  • The way Johnny found out about Minny, though the way in the book was entertaining, who doesn't like the ax part, but I liked him chasing her in the yard yelling at her

That's all I can really think of now...I'm sure there's more but I'm not really sure I can think of more right now :p
Things I wish they'd put in the movie that were in the book:
  • Aibileen's special story time with Mae Mobley
  • Mae Mobley going the bathroom in Aibileen's bathroom
  • Skeeter's style transformation towards the end of the book

That is NOT how I wanted it to end!

So I finished Mockingjay pretty quick in the hopes that it would go the way that I wanted...but it didn't, it seemed rather underwhelming, I was hoping for a huge battle and for Katniss to end up with Gale, but hey things never happen in books the way I want them to, unless it's a trashy romance novel, and that's just guaranteed that those people will be together in the end. Don't get me wrong, I like Peeta and all, but he's Mr. Perfect and as much as I like the idea of Mr. Perfect nobody will ever be like him...and I don't know, I just never rooted for his character (not that I wanted him to die or anything)

Now on to another book, not sure what next...I have 3 Psych chapters to read before Tuesdays class...and I haven't started he he he, but where are the fun in school books. Maybe I'll read a trashy romance novel or some other somewhat cheery book, it will have to be a quick read so that I can get to reading those always enjoyable school books...*sigh* I hate the end of summer

Day 51 of Triple digits

So today HAS to be better than yesterday. Nothing horrible happened during the day, it wasn't that busy at work, I had to redo some jeans that I'd been doing Tuesday because I delegated one of the other girls to do it and well she didn't do it right (or really more to my standards). We got out on time.
Getting home is when stuff got worse...I get home ope my apartment do and it is SWELTERING, I swear it felt a little hotter than it was outside...which is in the low 90's at this point. I figure I left something on, though I swear I didn't use the stove or oven that morning , and my toaster turns itself off after not being used, I check the water heater and the fridge just in case, then go and let poor Harley out and she's gotten sick ALL over her crate (I'll spare you the gross details), but that's when I notice my AC is on, and I think it's strange that it would be this hot in my apartment with the AC on, yes I do keep my AC fairly high around 80-ish usually, but it's WAY hotter than 80 in my apartment. So I put my hand to the vent in my bedroom and it's blowing out HOT air...great right. So I super fill Harley's water bowl, she's drinking like a mad woman which means she probably got sick from the heat (poor puppy =( I'm watching her today to make sure she's ok, she's acting normal so far).
So I call the emergency hotline for my complex, because the AC being out in these temperatures (even at night) is horrible, and leave a message. I get a call back about 15/20 minutes later and the head maintenance guy says that since my apartment is on the top floor my AC unit is on the roof, which means that they can't come out that night because they aren't allowed, I'm sure by insurance, to be up on the roof that late at night...which means that I have to spend the night with no AC and just my fans (thank the lord I have 2 stand fans and a small desk fan!). I did tell the dude though that he, or whomever, needed to be out here first thing in the morning because I was so worried about Harley, with her having long hair and being in the apartment however long with the AC acting up I was so afraid that she might get even sicker than she already had, she was already panting really hard and went through SO much water, so they said they'd be here at 8am because that's when they get into the office.
It was a DAMN long night! I moved my shorter stand fan into my room to where Harley's crate was (I moved it out onto the deck so that I can clean it later today)...needless to say it was a very long night. I tried to get Harley to sleep on the foot of the bed in front of the fan to help her keep cool, I had a damp towel around my neck. I woke up every couple of hours and at about 6/6:30 I decided it was just no use in trying to sleep, it's just too damn hot. So I channel surf, *force* Harley to lay in front of the fan on her back with a cool damp towel on her tummy to try and get her to stop panting. The guy gets here a little after 8 and makes me turn on the AC. =\ Apparently the motor or something went out and that's why it was only blowing hot air. So now I have a working AC and I'm trying to catch up on the sleep I didn't get last night.

On a much happier, my dorkyness gets to be peaked, I got to early register for PotterMore.com which I'm kinda super excited about! Hopefully I'll get to try the beta sooner rather than later!

My Birthday went well, went out with Chris and Heather for the traditional dinner at Trudy's for a stuffed avocado and a couple Mexican martinis. Then we met up with Patrick downtown and just bar hopped that Friday, I completely forgot how dead 6th can be when school isn't in sessions yet, then we finished the night at Gourdoughs where I got the Son of A Peach, SO good, I highly recommend going there, their doughnuts and doughnut holes are crazy good, the Flying Pig and Blue Balls are a must try! I went down to San Antonio Saturday morning and was there until Sunday night. Went to dinner at Ponchitos with family and my grandma, got their AMAZING empenadas, and since we know most everyone there they had the entire restaurant sing to me, and my mom got me one of my FAVORITE cake, white with whipped topping and strawberries on top! Then I spent the night with my mom at a hotel that her soccer club footed the bill for because they were having a soccer meeting that weekend. Sunday morning got up had the breakfast buffet, then we went to a cooking class at William Sonoma (which wasn't really good, the regular teacher wasn't there and the guy they got to "teach" had no idea how to multitask, he knew what he was talking about, he had to be a culinary student, but he couldn't explain what he was doing and actually cook at the same time), then we went home chilled with the puppies and just chill, then the 4 of us went to Sea Island for some DAMN good seafood, then I packed all my crap and drove back up to Austin for work Monday morning. My parents promised to buy me the new iPhone when it comes out in September as my birthday gift because my mom refused to give me all money for my birthday because she knew I would spend it on bills and not something fun and for myself, which she's right, I would spend it paying bills, rent, paying off my credit card, so I don't really need anything right now except a new phone, but with the new iPhone coming out in a matter of months there's no point in getting the iPhone4...and I can survive with my crap iPhone 3G until the new one comes out...even if it drops calls and randomly either turns off or the screen goes blank...but hey Apple is smart like that and wants you to keep upgrading every time a new product comes out.

I have come to the conclusion that I am most definitely not going to finish reading the Harry Potter series before the last movie comes out next week, I might be good if I didn't have to work, but that evil place that holds my paycheck actually requires me to work for it...le sigh. But at least I have reread the last one that my mind is fresh for the movie! I'm so dern excited for it. Me and a friend from work are going to the 3D midnight showing at the mall where we were, that way we have stuff to do while we are waiting in line to actually go and see the movie!

I reached an all level of Harry Potter dorkyness by buying my first sunngie the other day at hot topic, in which I plan on taking to the midnight showing because no matter how many people are in the theater I always end up freezing my ass off!
Now all I need is a Harry Potter shirt and I think I'll be good to go. Can't wait!!
Now off to start reading 'Order of the Phoenix!'

It's going slow but steady. I want to finish all the Harry Potter books before the last movie comes out (Saw the final trailer for it the other day when it came out OMG EPIC!!!) This is going to be made harder because my boss came up to me the other day and asked if I could crochet her a baby blanket for her newborn grand daughter, which I would want to get done as soon as possible...I have sadly added a few more books to my reading list, which I'm not going to post here...because it makes me a little depressed at how much I have to read and such little time to do it in =p

Book List

So here it is, my summer reading list and I'm sad to say I haven't made much of a dint in it, I keep adding books...I *finally* added iBooks onto my iPhone and have been trying to get all these books (and some more that I've found and want to read) in ePub form so that I can read them all on my phone. I have almost all of them, with just a few missing. It should be good, now I won't have to carry my huge purse with a heavy book in it to work anymore, I can just sit at lunch and stare at my phone ^_^

I'm trying to read all the Harry Potter books before the last *OMG!!* movie comes out

Blankie Craftee

So I finished Delma's baby blanket Thursday and plan on giving it to her tomorrow. She only works 2 days next week (the 2 days that I happen to have off) and her due date is next Saturday the 28th, I think tomorrow when we work together for the last time would be a good day to give it to her ^_^
So here are a couple pictures of what it looks like, it's baby green. I think it's my new go to pattern, very easy and mindless =p

Freedom

The semester is officially over! So happy summer break is here! I can finally start reading the very long list of books that I've been wanting to read/finish reading, but couldn't because school feels the need to make me only have time for boring school books!
Here's what I have so far, if you have any suggestions please feel free to tell me:

The Hunger Game series
The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest
Heat Wave and Naked Heat (yes the ones from the Castle series, what can I say I'm obsessed)
Reread the Harry Potter series (have about 200 pages left on Deathly Hallows)
Rocket Men
Too Far From Home
Water For Elephants

Every time I stop by half price books, which lately has been on a weekly basis, I find more books that I want to read. Darn them and their good prices!

I have a couple crochet projects that I want to work on too. I found a doily book that I want to try too, not to make doilies that are going to ruin my eyesight, but there's one pattern I really like that I think would be cool for the back of a shirt. They seem to be all the rage right now, and I figure instead of paying $15-$30 for one I can buy a cheap cotton tee at work and then cut out the back and sew in what I've crocheted...we'll see how that goes. Sounds simple, but what I've found with crochet lately even if it sound simple and straight forward, it's not. I have a baby blanket to finish for a girl at work that is about to have her baby any day now, and I'm being completely serious, she's due the 28th.

I'll be going to ACL with the lovely Miss Heather this year! Bought my first ticket today, I'm excited! I LOVE Austin and now I can say that I'll be participating in a major Austin tradition. Ha Ha

I've noticed lately that I've been getting more and more obsessed with Harry Potter the closer the last movie gets. I'm so excited, and yet sad...with the last movie getting here it means that there will be no more Harry Potter movies. =( But for this one I want to go all out, midnight 3d showing and everything! Anyone be willing to go with me? =D

Almost There!

I'm ready for the end of the semester to be here now, not Thursday. I took the first part of my DiffEq final today...yeah my professor thought he would be a "benevolent dictator" and give us a 2 part final. I'm still Switzerland about this idea. It makes the final twice as long, but it does give you a chance to go over what you didn't do so well on in the first one to make sure that just in case the same kind of problems are on the 2nd part. I think I did ok, I know I messed up some simple algebra on one thing, which is really frustrating me now. I don't know why I do it to myself, but after every test I have, if I was unsure on how to do something or what the answer is I'll look it up...this time I happened to be somewhat wrong, I forgot to put in the exponential part of my general solution to a spiral sink system of DiffEq's. I do feel smart talking about this, I'm sure someone that hasn't taken DiffEq that reads this is probably saying "What the hell is this crazy math major girl talking about?"

I finished my extra credit portfolio project for my Psych class last night, and I must say that my hole punching skills are quiet exceptional...I somehow can't find my 3 hole punch, and was smart enough to buy one last night when I went to pick up a 4 clasp folder and popcorn(my studying for exams must have snack). I bought the cheapest one at Target, which was probably a mistake, but I get home, finish my project and start punching holes, unlike my lost hole punch, this one doesn't have a bar/piece of plastic that sticks out to make sure that the holes are punched just right, and they don't stick out of the folder when you put them in it. So my project looks kind of retarded in it's folder right now, and me being a person that loves the trees and Earth I wasn't going to reprint the project, so the holes in the paper start getting higher...the groups that I punched them in look like they are kind of cascading in the folder. So Bravo to me and my mad hole punching skills.

This Saturday I'm going to be in San Antonio doing the Culinary wine run, it should be fun. My mom has made it into a family event, she somehow got my brother to say he would run it, but hey I'm in, anything to get free wine samples at 8am...it's 5 'o clock somewhere right ^_~ Plus it's only a 5k, I won't die, I'll walk along sipping my wine...and probably Tommy's because he's not a wine/alcohol person, strange I know...what's wrong with that boy?! I'll be sure to take my camera...see if I can juggle wine and taking pictures he he he, if they're blurry you'll know why he he he. I wish I had Sunday off...but I guess that would be something WAY too nice to do, giving someone a full weekend off. The only reason that I have this Saturday off (I haven't had a Saturday off in....forever...well a couple weeks when I asked for a Saturday off to do the Fiesta Fandango run...hmm pattern here?) I guess I'll be driving home Saturday night with my little backseat driver, as much as Harley seems to like the idea of car rides, she is so damn impatient about getting where we're going, she wines if we get stuck in traffic or if it's just taking too long, then when she notices that we are close to our destination she really starts complaining, and this is the kind of pacing and big sighing kind of complaining. Silly, spoiled puppy!

I apparently have next Tuesday and Thursday off...what am I going to do?! I can "sleep in," I can stay in my pj's all day, and completely veg, not that I could actually be completely non-productive, but the thought is nice. Maybe I'll go see a movie, there are a few movies out that I want to see...and my friends have totally bailed on me when I want to see them =p I guess we'll see he he he

Busy Craftee Bee

So I've decided that I really want to open an etsy store to sell my crochet stuff. I figure I have to "stock up" on things so that I actually have inventory to sell stuff because to get started I really don't want to take costume orders, except for friends, since it's the school year and I really need to be focusing on my studies and all that jazz, but it would be nice to have a little extra spending money on the side. So here are a few of the things that I've done lately. I made my mom a scarf and a hat and then I have 2 extra hats that are going to be for sale and then a purse that I need to seriously finish up and take pictures of... ... ...

So here are the pics of the scarf and the hats ^_^

this is the scarf I made for my mom, it's like an inverse of the blanket I made her
the hats are: top- brown with teal-aqua flower with crocheted ribbing going around
bottom left- black with glittery pink trim and flower
black and white one is for my mom (unless she changes her mind or I find a pattern I like for her)
And I forgot, a baby blanket for a lady at work that looks as if she's about to pop any day =p I forgot to take a picture of Letie's baby blanket, but it's the same pattern as this but in the same pink glitter color on the black and pink beanie above. She absolutely loved it, and apparently her mom says that she's NOT allowed to get rid of it by any means, she's to keep it until it dies I guess =p

I think I can...

So the other day I decided I wanted to learn how to knit, like seriously too, most people when they see me crochet think I'm knitting anyways. I've said that I want to learn how to knit for some time and haven't actually done it. Well I'm gonna learn, I went and got a "learners kit" at Walmart and I'm trying to teach myself, it's coming along ok, not as fast as I would like. I picked up crocheting fairly fast, for some reason the only thing that has really caught on with knitting is casting on (getting the beginning loops on one of the needles). I've gotten a little better, and faster, at doing a knit stitch, now if only I could wrap my brain around the purl stitch, which is just a reverse/backwards knit stitch I think I'd be ok, and much happier. I know I shouldn't compare this with crocheting, the only thing that they really having in common is that you use yarn to make things, but after an hour or so of my mom "showing" me what to do I was a granny square making machine. I'll be sure to post a picture of something that's actually fairly normal looking =p

In other news, I got to help with a shoplifting person last night. I didn't actually catch the girl but I was the witness for Ben when he caught her and escorted her back to the LP office. The girl was very soft spoken and fairly complacent when Ben was asking her questions. She mumbled most answers about her knowing why Ben had stopped her and if she had done anything like this. She said she had never shoplifted and didn't know why she had done it and that even though she hadn't done anything like this before she was on probation, which had started in September, for blocking a highway following a DWI. So Amy comes in and gets all the stuff to go ring it up, and the girl tried to to get away with a little over $200 worth of stuff! Then we sit in the room with the girl until the police show up to take over...and that's when all these stories and the turning on and off of the water works. The minute the cop cuffs her she starts telling this story about how she wasn't feeling like herself today because she had just gotten off anti-depression medicine that she had been taking for a few months because her Godfather had died and it was such a traumatic experience for her, and she's never done anything like this and would the cop please just do anything but take her downtown. The cop teller her that it's his decision to make and since she's on probation right now he's going to have to take her down and let the court and whatever to decided, that's when she starts crying, and then stops because he starts going through her purse and asking her questions, then she asks again if she can just pay a citation right now instead of going down, the cop tells her no and the crocodile tears start all over again. It was so hard not to laugh at some of the parts, I mean really? If you weren't feeling like yourself that day and just feeling weird all day long, you shouldn't be out, the cop even asked her why she had come out feeling so weird, she side stepped that question a few times. The he finds her car keys and asks if she has a friend that he can call to come pick up her car instead of impounding it, really nice of him if you ask me. So he calls one of her friends to come and pick up her car and then she asks if she can make a phone call, she wants to call her boss because at this moment he's the only one that could help her, cop says no, she'll have to wait until they get down to the station...and the water works are turned back on. I kinda wonder if she started crying when she was sitting in the police car waiting for her friend to come and pick up her car. I would be completely mortified to have to call and ask a friend to pick up my car because I'd been caught shoplifting, I know I have friends that would do it with no problem...but still, COMPLETELY mortifying in my opinion. After the policeman took her out I got to sign a form saying I was there, and then Ben showed up the video of how Lynne almost gave us away(she had gone into the fitting room to check and see what the girl had left in and when she realized that that the girl didn't bring everything out, she looked like she was landing a plane when she was trying to get Ben's attention about the girl, luckily the girl didn't look back after she walked out of the fitting room) and then I got to go back to work and close on a very boring, very slow night! I'm totally going to have to look in the "Busted" paper and see if she's in it next week or the week after he he he ^_^
Did I mention that it was the chicks 24th birthday too...Happy Birthday...you're going to jail he he he!

Spiffy Hat

So its freezing outside, and I decided I wanted to make myself a beanie, but a spiffy beanie, so it's burnt orange (because it matches my scarf this way) and has a glitter white flower and shell border. I couldn't get Harley to model it for me so I guess I'll have to do. ^_^ Thoughts?
